Something worth reading about!
BLAQUE is gearing up for the 2022 Charter School Board Draft (CSBD)! This is an opportunity to connect leaders in the community to charter schools seeking talented and committed members to serve on their school boards. Modeled after The NFL Draft, slated for Kansas City in 2023, the Charter School Board Draft will provide an evening to celebrate our local charter schools, their students, and current leaders serving on charter boards.
The draft will take place July 30, 2022, at the Arrowhead stadium featuring an all-star lineup of the top charter schools in Kansas City!
Our goal is to recruit 10 local Charter schools to participate in the Draft. To date, the following schools have confirmed:
Citizens of The World
Hogan Preparatory Academy
Hope Leadership Academy
Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy
Scuola Vita Nuova.
BLAQUE will host a series of events for the candidates to get familiar with the charter school landscape and the communities they will potentially serve. These events include:
Charter School Tours
Candidate Speed Dating
Lunch & Learns
Last year, BLAQUE endorsed two community champions for the Kansas City Public School Board, Kandice Bucker and Tanesha Ford.
The two completed BLAQUE’s Candidate Classroom, and Candidate and Campaigners Bootcamp, which teaches candidates what it takes to be a School Board member.
“BLAQUE has really inspired me to be bold in the work that I do every day in education. Through BLAQUE, I have had the opportunity to look at data, engage in conversations, and strategize on ways to improve outcomes for black children with the most brilliant and passionate people. The organization emphasizes the urgency to take action in meaningful ways,” said KCPS School Board Member Kandice Buckner.
